Give Back Policy

On this page, you will find my 2019-20 Give Back Policy – although you will note it extends beyond ‘giving back’. It is my attempt to be public and transparent about the actions I plan to personally take toward my continued development, contribution and attempts to build a feminist and socially conscious business. It is an evolving policy that I update at least once per year. My hope is the it will continue to grow in scale each year. If you would like to create a Give Back Policy of your own, head on over to this article.

2019-20 Focus Areas

Socially Conscious Business

Feminism & Social Justice

Cancer Research & Prevention

Methods

Educating self + others

  • Continue to undertake Master of Human Rights + other social justice courses
  • Continue to read books, news, and literature in human rights + social justice space
  • Follow, listen to and support the work and writings of those who experience social injustice, as well as experts in the field, on social media and other platforms
  • Commit to ongoing self-examination concerning how I contribute to upholding oppressive systems and social injustice, as well as what action I can (and will) take to create change
  • Use my blog, podcast, newsletters, social media and client interactions to raise awareness and encourage critical thinking, self-examination and change in these areas
  • Hosting classes with expert teachers in the Feminist Coach Track teaching feminist coach theory – how to integrate feminism and social justice into the practice of coaching

Pro bono + pay what you choose services

  • Offer pro bono and ‘pay what you choose’ coaching opportunities for those who would otherwise not be able to afford to work with me
  • Offer pro bono services to non-profits and advocates to support them in progressing their causes – including website strategy, content development, speaking, and fundraising work
  • Continue to offer at least one pro bono or pay what you choose coaching position at a time and / or at least 10% of my time to pro bono offerings
  • Offer at least one scholarship position in my group coaching programs and collaborations where possible

Advocacy, activism and community work

  • Speak up and campaign for human rights and social justice causes
  • Act to support those who are dedicating their lives to improving humanitarian, feminist and social justice issues

  • Continue to do advocacy, activism, and volunteer work in my local community where possible

Donations, sponsorships and loans

  • Continue to invest in a Kiva loan and donation each time a new client signs on to work with me (through my coaching or speaking offerings)
  • Fund scholarships to social justice courses and offerings when I can afford to do so
  • Sponsor events and programs related to my Give Back Policy focus areas where possible
  • Make ad hoc donations to charities aligned with my Give Back Policy focus areas where possible

Business Practices +  Accountability

  • Continue to maintain my B-Corporation certification and demonstrate that even a small primarily service-based business like mine can be used as a force for good
  • Continue to update my Operations Manual to provide consistent guidance for myself, contractors and any future employees to ensure my business is operated in a values-based, ethical, environmentally friendly, generous and impactful way
  • Endeavour to make values-based, ethical and environmentally friendly choices in my business and work at every opportunity – and building on these as my business grows

  • Continue to undertake training, coaching and critical analyses of how I do my work and where I can do so in a more socially conscious way
